40 years ago, we began as a small group of dedicated volunteers to help wild birds in need. Today, we respond to oiled wildlife locally and globally, and our Wild Bird Clinic provides professional care to nearly 3,000 patients every year. We have made great strides over the years thanks to a compassionate community of volunteers, supporters, and partners.
Together, we’ve saved tens of thousands of birds’ lives.
Thank you for 40 wonderful years of helping wild birds and here’s to many more.
About our anniversary bird
It seemed an obvious choice to select the Ruby-throated Hummingbird as the mascot for our “Ruby” anniversary, but the more we thought about it, the more fitting it seemed. These tiny birds can be found from Canada to the Caribbean, just like our Oil Spill Response Team. These birds diligently care for their young, as our Clinic staff cares for thousands of patients annually. Ruby-throats have seemingly boundless energy, like our volunteers. Hummingbirds accomplish incredible feats, like flying nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico, with very little resources—just as Tri-State has for 40 years. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird truly is Tri-State in a (feathered) nutshell.
