February 2017. This female Rusty Blackbird was brought to our clinic for care after a suspected window strike. The blackbird was dull on arrival with wing and scapula (shoulder blade) injuries. With pain medication and supportive care, the blackbird was soon self-feeding and showing signs of recovery. After a period of cage rest to allow the bird’s injuries to heal, the blackbird was moved into an outdoor cage to ensure she was flying strong. Once ready, she was returned to the area where she was found so she could re-join her flock.
