Like many loon patients, this Common Loon was treated for injuries related to landing on the wrong kind of surface. These seabirds sometimes confuse wet pavement for the surface of a lake or pond. This loon was brought to another rehabilitation center for initial care of injuries to its feet sustained when the bird landed on pavement. The loon was then transferred to our facility for ongoing care and housing in a deep outdoor pool. After two weeks and a lot of fish, the loon was returned to the wild on June 8th with the help of our amazing volunteers and our friends at the Delaware Bay & River Cooperative, who helped us return this patient to open waters.
